 Sender (Transmitter): Role and Function

  • Role: The sender is the device or entity that originates the data and initiates the communication process.
  • Function: It converts the data into signals (electrical, optical, or electromagnetic) that can be transmitted over a medium. Examples include computers, smartphones, and sensors.

 Receiver: Role and Function

  • Role: The receiver is the device or entity that accepts the data from the transmission medium.
  • Function: It interprets and converts the received signals back into usable data. Examples include computers, smartphones, and servers.

 Message: Types of Data (Text, Audio, Video, etc.)

  • Text: Plain text, documents, and messages transmitted in textual form.
  • Audio: Sound data, such as voice recordings and music.
  • Video: Moving images, such as video streams or recorded footage.
  • Data Files: Any other forms of data, such as images, spreadsheets, and application files.

 Transmission Medium: Types (Wired, Wireless)

  • Wired: Physical mediums like copper cables (e.g., Ethernet) and fiber optics, known for higher reliability and speed over short distances.
  • Wireless: Mediums that use electromagnetic waves, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular networks, offering more flexibility and mobility.

 Protocol: Importance of Protocols in Data Communication

  • Definition: Protocols are standardized rules and conventions for data transmission between devices.
  • Importance: They ensure the proper synchronization, error handling, and security of data communication. Examples include TCP/IP for internet communication, HTTP for web browsing, and FTP for file transfer.
