Modes of Data Communication

 Simplex Mode: One-way Communication

  • Definition: Simplex mode allows communication in only one direction. The sender can transmit data, but the receiver cannot send any response.
  • Example: Television broadcasting, where the TV station sends signals to viewers, but viewers cannot send signals back.

 Half-Duplex Mode: Two-way Communication but not Simultaneous

  • Definition: Half-duplex mode enables communication in both directions, but not at the same time. Each device can send and receive data, but only one can transmit at a time.
  • Example: Walkie-talkies, where users take turns speaking and listening.

 Full-Duplex Mode: Two-way Simultaneous Communication

  • Definition: Full-duplex mode allows simultaneous communication in both directions. Both devices can send and receive data at the same time.
  • Example: Telephone calls, where both parties can speak and listen simultaneously.
